ABOUT MANCHESTER

INTRODUCTION TO MANCHESTER

As one of the UK’s biggest (and friendliest) cities, Manchester is a favourite for anyone looking for a good time. In short, it’s the ideal location for your hen weekend. Just two hours on the train from London, and easily accessible via the motorway, this fun, loud and vibrant northern city will definitely tick all of the boxes. Shop until you drop at one of the city’s famous landmark shopping centres, indulge in the finer things at a celebrity hotspot restaurant and if football’s your thing, there’s two premier league teams to cheer on! In the evening, choose between the edgy and cool Northern Quarter or for a little bit of glitz and glam, you can’t go wrong in Spinningfields. Whether rain or shine, a Manchester hen weekend won’t disappoint.

HOW TO GET TO MANCHESTER

Ideally located in the north west, Manchester is easy to get to – wherever you’re based. It’s also home to a large airport, meaning international friends won’t have any excuses! By train, Manchester is around two hours from London Euston. And once you’re here, it’s super easy to see everything by foot. But if you’ve packed your killer heels, there’s plenty of taxis around and a fantastic tram link.

BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN MANCHESTER FOR HEN GROUPS

Shopping

Boasting two incredible shopping centres as well as a whole host of high street, designer and independent stores in the city centre, Manchester is perfect for a little retail therapy. If you mean business, head to The Trafford Centre. With brands such as Michael Kors, Reiss, Topshop and River Island, you’re sure to find something you love. The champagne bar in Selfridges is ideal for refueling after a long day. Located in the city centre, The Arndale has all you could ask for and more. Exit onto New Cathedral Street, where you’ll find plenty of other shops and a large selection of bars and pubs…

Spinningfields

Manchester’s Spinningfields is the place to go if you’re looking for something a little special. It’s elegant, luxurious and you’re bound to spot someone famous. Start your evening off with a cocktail masterclass at the Alchemist – but be sure to book as it’s a favourite of many. From Lebanese to Spanish, you’ll definitely find something to tantalise your taste buds – but for a truly memorable weekend, it’s got to be Australaisia. It’s swanky, special and allows large bookings.

Deansgate

The longest road in Manchester city centre, here you’ll find everything from fun and games, drinks and food and of course a club open until the early hours. Start your weekend off with a game of bowling at All Star Lanes. Your skills might not be great but here, the cocktails are. Once finished, refuel with a delicious burger at Almost Famous – will you release your inner northern bird and order the one with gravy? Afterwards, choose from Dirty Martini, Impossible and Albert Schloss for a night to remember. For Peaky Blinders fans, you’ve got to head to the themed bar. Cocktails are half price on a Sunday, and everyone loves a Sunday Funday, right?

Northern Quarter

Full of bearded hipsters, Northern Quarter is Manchester’s up and coming neighbourhood packed with street art, bohemian bars and unique shops. Easily located from Piccadilly Gardens, you’ll find tonnes of restaurants and bars, as well as some of the city’s best live music venues.

Food & Restaurants

No hen party is complete without delicious food, and Manchester certainly does it well. There’s always new places popping up, and from Indian to Greek and American to Mexican, you won’t go hungry! As well as the ones we’ve mentioned above, our favourites include: Rosso, El Gato Negro, Grand Pacific, and Gaucho.

BEST HEN GROUP ACTIVITIES THE COTSWOLDS

Nude Life drawing for an arty party

BEST FOR A CHEAP LAUGH

Is there anything better than embarrassing your friends? Nude Life drawing puts the art into party with a unique and fun activity that definitely won’t be forgotten in a hurry. Your private session will begin with a few drinking games and end with your bride posing with the naked model. It’s a great activity that guarantees loads of fun. The best bit? You can arrange it in your own accommodation. .

Spa and champagne day

BEST FOR A LITTLE PAMPERING

We get it. Planning a wedding can be tough, so you’ll be pleased to hear that Manchester has lots of different spas – great for varying budgets. Unwind and put the world to right in the Jacuzzi or go all out and indulge in a day of treatments. Of course, a fizz lunch is essential.

Hen party wine tasting

BEST FOR ALL AGES

What’s a hen party without wine? Manchester Wine School has just the thing, or why not host your own? It makes the perfect pre-drinks. Tell everyone to bring their favourite bottle and make sure you stock up on nibbles too.

Gin masterclass and a private banquet

BEST FOR PLEASING EVERYONE

Simply hire a function room, enlist the help of a gin expert and get the caterers in. This fun and unique group experience will not only teach you how to make your very own gin cocktails but you’ll also be treated to a three-course dinner. Plus it’s the perfect activity for pretending you’re posh.

Pre-theatre cocktails and a musical

BEST FOR A CLASSY NIGHT OUT

From the Palace Theatre in Manchester City Centre to Salford Quays’ Lowry Theatre, there’s always something good to watch. And with daytime performances just as good, it doesn’t have to break the bank either. Book your tickets in advance or turn up on the night and see what takes your fancy.

An escape room

BEST FOR THOSE HENS THAT CAN’T SIT STILL

Depending on the size of your group, break off into teams and see who can escape the fastest. Discover clues, solve puzzles, and complete tasks all within a set time. Why not turn it into a drinking game? The losing team has to buy the next round and do a shot!
